My first book of poetry, “Fourth Quarter: Reflections of a Cranky Old Man,” will be published by Bad Knee Press in Los Angeles.
On August 2, 2016, I gave a presentation, “Cultural Competence in the Health Professions,” for the first-year medical students in the University of California, Riverside, School of Medicine.
I co-taught three courses with Louise Wilkinson: Inequities; Rethinking Privilege; and Teaching Diversity.
I will be doing four sessions on diversity and higher education for the Management Development Program of the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education on June 7-8, 2016.
On January 28, 2016, the City of Riverside, California, announced the naming of an annual award in my name to be given to a Riverside resident who has made outstanding contributions to diversity and inclusion in the community. The award is entitled the Carlos E. Cortes Award.
I will be performing my one-person autobiographical play, “A Conversation with Alana: One Boy’s Multicultural Rite of Passage,” on Monday evening, October 5, 2015, at the University of Maryland, College Park.
On Wednesday, November 12, I will be performing in Tiffany Lopez’ play, “Civic Morality,” in Riverside, California.
On Monday, October 5, 2015, I will be performing my play, “A Conversation with Alana: One Boy’s Multicultural Rite of Passage,” at the University of Maryland.
I will be giving a reading of my memoir, “Rose Hill: An Intermarriage Before Its Time,” on Friday, June 15, at the Retirees Luncheon at the University of California, Riverside
I will also be performing my one-man play, “A Conversation with Alana: One Boy’s Multicultural Rite of Passage,” on Tuesday, June 19, at Harvard University.
I will also be teaching a one-day course, Dealing with Privilege: Thinking Clearly and Acting Effectively, at SIIC on July 14, 2012.
